Total Running time (03:20:47 )

Apostolos Zerdevas - War 01 - 00:18:22

Τhe sound of an electric bass and a washing machine  in operation is being converted through  sound proccecing  into one  undefined industrial sound  that could be similar  with  the sound of an air strike  transforming with that  one familiar  domestic sound  into something  unfamiliar and indefinable  bringing literally  war into our domestic space.

Maria Paschalidou - VoiceMail 2001 2004 - 00:13:51

“In 2001, I started to record the messages left on my personal answering machine. I kept collecting these messages for four years to produce a ‘voice mail – archive’. These messages, sometimes in the form of stories/narrations, sounds, noises, or even songs, constitute the primary material for the production of the Voice mail 2001-2004, which apart from the sounds includes also one digital video. The digital video combines the messages with the inner and outdoor video recordings of my residence in Chicago.”

Voice mail 2001-2004 portrays forms of communication defined by the mediation of the telephone answering machine.

As an interdisciplinary artist, Maria Paschalidou works mainly with Installation, Photography, Digital Imaging & Video, Experimental Digital Sound and Interactive CD-ROMs. Based on ‘visual’ metaphors and fabrications of invented spaces, ephemeral constructions, conditions and performances, her artwork concerns the interactions and transformations of the Self in its contact with the urban, cultural and technological environment.

Maria Paschalidou currently curates and participates in the Visibility, multi-media public art performance at the Public Market of Attiki Square; Autumn 2007, Athens, Greece.

Apostolos Zerdevas - City Noise - 00:06:40

It was recorded during a random wandering in the city. With the proper manipulation the simple sounds of the city were transformed
into a trip between real and unreal and the simple recording is being converted into an allegoric journey.

Jeremy Deller and Alex Farquharson - Propaganda - 05 Radio Gallery-6 01:00:00

(Part of 'Radio Gallery' series of 12 commissioned radio programmes that treat one hour of radio as exhibition space. 'Radio Gallery' was curated and commissioned by Anna Colin for Resonance 104.4FM, London.)

This exhibition explores the uses of the radio as a tool for propaganda during times of 'hot' and 'cold' war. It begins in World War II with a compilation of German and Italian propaganda aimed at British and American troops and civilians (featuring, for example, Lord Haw-Haw (hanged for treason in 1946) and Ezra Pound). After this historical, archival introduction, the programme becαme live, eavesdropping on what's being said on clandestine radio stations around the world while the exhibition was on air. To do this we gathered speakers of several languages (Farsi, Arabic, Mandarin, Korean and Spanish) in the Resonance FM studio to deliver simultaneous translations of broadcasts coming from states at war with (or regarded as a threat of to) America, Britain and their allies, e.g. Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea, China and Cuba. Resonance FM, for the hour of the 'exhibition', devoured the content of other radio stations across continents, producing radio from intercontinental radio.

3. Barbaras Straight Son 06 - A Man Might Wonder - 00:06:53
4. Barbaras Straight Son 08 - Drugs Are Useless Without TV - 00:05:47

Barbara's Straight Son Productions was established on October 2003,when the two founding members, Fotis Velentzas and Nikos Haldoupis met each other. It all kicked off with the movie Prophetical Dreamteller, directed by Fotis Velentzas and produced by Nikos Haldoupis, which created a sensation amongst the greek youth. The movie was featured on the short-length film festival of "Kaleidoskopio" magazine and on the P.O.P.F.A Cinema Sector. Along came the sequel subtitled "Erotic Kazaam"(you can watch the trailer in the video section),directed by Fotis Velentzas and produced by Nikos Haldoupis, which was screened during the Digital Wake post-midnight projections(part of the Thessaloniki Cinema Festival). Musically, Nikos Haldoupis a.k.a midi.ohm, was in a progressive metal band called "Immature Death" during his teenage years, but also participated in numerous music projects playing the bass, keyboards and trying out his own noise experimentations. He has been chief producer of several greek bands' and artists' demos, theatrical shows and publicity spots. Fotis Velentzas a.k.a Hundertchronik has individually indulged into noise/idm and breakcore experimentations since 2001. His only achievement is busting his neighbours' balls. Barbara's Straight Son emerged when those two artists teamed up. Noisy breakcore beats and melodic outbursts is the most accurate characterization that could be given. Combined with the creation of a series of visual material, each live performance is a diverse audiovisual event.

carlos slazengers audio obstacle course 8 - 01:00:00

Mission Statement for Carlos Slazenger’s Audio Obstacle Course
‘Doncha wish your deejay was wrong like me?, doncha wish your deejay was a freak like me? dontcha?’

I’m on Artwave Radio to trade under the name of Carlos Slazenger- ‘Wrongist’ Dee Jay of  radical, neglected & incredibly strange recorded sound, past present & future. I am a collector who has found that some of the most interesting things that exist are not those that are pushed into your face by the ACME multi-national entertainment corp .I create radio programmes & party nights that are intended to confound & surprise, something that mainstream music seems to have lost its talent for. It ain’t easy to answer what music I play when I’m asked, as I genuinely have no axe to grind regarding any one particular genre, and I am not in the least concerned with clutching at the coat tails of ‘cool’. Though I am a lifelong fan of Captain Beefheart & The Fall, I suffer no pangs of aching credibility by following them with Sabrina or Jethro Tull, I’m happy to play artrock, krautrock, early rockabilly, 50’s & 60’s novelty records, way out exotica, outsider music, regrettable obsolete pop trash or W.H.Y alongside the collected works of The Chic Organization ltd. I choose music by instinct and go for quality and contrast, even if that makes my shows unpredictable…that’s why its called the Audio Obstacle Course!...
I’ve taken my concept to the clubs & bars with my friends as ‘Non Stop Hits’ & I’m currently starting a new night called ‘pub juke box’ with mates from www.black-athena.com which is a homesick ex pats attempt to recreate an English pub experience (without the underlying aggression ). I also dee jay regularly on www.vinylmicrostore.gr. I have every intention of continuing to search for overlooked oddities to charm you with for as long as I have left to inhabit this planet, which judging by the state of them cowboys carbon footprints wont be too long…

P.S if any of you lot out there have got a copy of ‘Band on the Trot’ by Hylda Baker & Arthur Mullard I’m willing to do anything to get my hands on it…anything. Stalk me at www.myspace.com/carlosslazenger
